The roots of today's company, Schoeller Textil AG, are anchored in the environment of major change. In the 1860s, such organizations as BASF, the Swiss Red Cross, Nestlé or the International Watch Company (IWC) come into existence; the Suez Canal is opened. Structures such as the Eiffel Tower, Schloss Neuschwanstein or the Gotthard Tunnel, at the time the longest railway tunnel in the world, are built.
The foundation of our company also falls into this pioneering age:
In 1868, Rudolph Schoeller moved from Breslau to Zurich and in 1866/67 sets up Switzerland's first worsted yarn spinning mill in 1866/67. The company initially bears the names of the directors Chessex, Hoessly, Lang and Weidlich and is subsequently renamed "Schoeller & Söhne", the origins of today's Schoeller Textil AG.
